wild ones
A 2004 photo assignment for Sun Valley Magazine introduced me to the wild horses of Idaho. What I came to learn was extraordinary and changed the course of my life. After spending time with them, I shot two distinct types of photographs: documenting families in their day-to-day life, (knowing that most of these horses would soon be rounded up) and more formal life size portraits printed on fabric that became the Ghost Herd. I noticed that when I got close, the horses would stand alert, trying to assess the threat of the woman with the paparazzi lens pointed at them. The look they gave me is direct and haunting.
